About Me
Understanding Hotel Amenities

I have never been someone who is especially fussy, but about three years ago, I was assigned to work from satellite offices all across the country. I knew that I would be traveling almost nonstop, so I decided to work really hard to understand hotel amenities so that I could be comfortable. I started researching different hotels and I was eventually able to find a great deal on a five star hotel in a place that I visited frequently. It was incredible to see how much of a difference staying in a nice hotel actually made. I found myself surrounded by luxury, and it was amazing. The arrival of the holiday season means traveling for many families. If you and your children are hitting the road so that you can be near family and friends, staying in a hotel is probably part of the plan. Staying in a hotel with children can present special challenges that you need to be prepared to handle. To help ensure that you and your children make it through your hotel stay together, here are some tips you can use.

  1. Book a hotel near fun activities. Although you are traveling to spend time with family, you want to ensure that you have other activities readily available to entertain your kids that are easily accessible. For instance, try to find a hotel near a children's museum or movie theater.

  2. Opt for an en-suite kitchen. An en-suite kitchen allows you to take along snacks for your children to enjoy so you can avoid "I'm hungry" cries late a night. You can also save money on meals by cooking your own meals.

  3. Let your children pack their bags. Your children are less likely to complain about forgotten items if they were involved in the preparations. You can double check to ensure they packed necessary items, but let them be responsible for their wanted items.

  4. Talk to your children about hotel manners. Even if you believe that your children will forget everything you say the minute they get to the hotel, take the time to set expectations before arriving. If there is a problem once you arrive, you can remind them of what was expected.

  5. Inspect the room. Before you and your children unpack one item, take the time to look for potential safety concerns. If you have a small child, this is particularly important. Be sure to check that electrical outlets are covered, too.

  6. Divide the room. Instead of allowing your children to spread out where they want to in the room, set up areas for activities. For instance, you could set up one area for dressing and another for playing.

  7. Lock the door at the top. Since your children in a new environment, they might be tempting to go exploring. To avoid this, always use the top door look when it is time to go to bed.

When you check in at a hotel, such as The Breakers Hotel, talk to the staff about other ways you can make your stay more pleasant for the children. There might be services you and your family can take advantage of to keep everyone happy.
